March break 2014

Cam and Darcy playing at my mom's house.

On Saturday Darcy did her usual swimming and dance classes in the morning. When I got home Kevin had been called to go to work for the rest of the day. Cameron and I took Darcy up to my mom's for her two-night-sleepover. We brought Monopoly Millionaire and we played a 2-hour game. Mom won.  By the time Cam and I got back home Kevin was home and it was nearly 7:00, so we had hot dogs and poutine for supper from the restaurant across the street. After Cam and Kevin were in bed (9:00) I watched Knight and Day and The 40-year-old Virgin on TV.

Monday morning Cam and I went to get Darcy and then we headed to Charla's. On the way we stopped to feed the deer. Charla and I got caught up on everything while the kids played.

Tuesday we went to see a (free) play at the library. It was done using plastic bags to make the characters - very well done! After that we went on a hunt around the library to answer questions for a contest. We all picked out some books, too. Later that night we went back to watch Frozen (also free!). We packed a bag with drinks and we got free popcorn when we got there. Poor Darcy got her heart broken when her friend decided to sit with her classmates (she's in kindergarten) and not with her. Cameron sat with a friend from school. I sat with Darcy and we all enjoyed the movie.

Wednesday we went to see The Lego Movie. The movie was really cute and so well done. I would recommend it as a fun family movie. It's turning out to be an expensive week despite the free activities! It only cost $17.50 for the 3 of us to see the movie, as I had a coupon for 1 child admission, BUT the snacks and drinks came to over $33!!! That, combined with about $25 for gas to get to Laval...made it about $25 each to see a 90 minute movie!!!! HOLY COW!!! .

Just before the break Cam told me he needs new shoes at school, so when we got back from Laval I took him to get new shoes. Of course, Darcy wanted some shoes, too...Barbie shoes. More money... When I got home I got the news that my cousin (my mom's 1st cousin) Bruce passed away. He was 74. When I went to make supper, I took my potatoes out of the pantry and...they were FROZEN. I'm so sick of winter.

Wednesday night Darcy started to get a cold and ran a low fever overnight, so I had to cancel our visit to Erin's Thursday. Instead, we went out for some groceries. I bought some apples and carrots and we went to feed the deer. After that we went home, had lunch, and rented The Muppets. At this point I was longing for a conversation with a grown-up that lasted more than 5 minutes and wasn't being constantly interrupted. Instead, we added another kid to the mix! Cam's friend came for a sleepover. We watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 - very cute! While I got Darcy into bed the boys played on the wii. They finally settled down around 11:00. I stayed up another hour and a half to make sure they were really asleep. This was Cam's first sleepover at our house - I'm not used to this!

Friday morning Kevin got up for work at 4:00. Apparently this woke up Cameron and Cameron woke up his friend, but they were too tired to stay awake. Thank God! Darcy woke up at 5-ish coughing. She got into bed with me and slept until 5:45 at which time the boys started talking VERY LOUDLY. I went and told them it was just too early. That lasted less than hour. Darcy finally said, "I can't sleep with those boys talking! I might as well get up!" That was it, we were all up before 7:00.

While I was making my bed I overheard the following argument:
-1 plus 0 is nothing
-No, 1 plus nothing is 1.
-No, 1 plus nothing is nothing!
-NO!  Seeeee...oooonnne pllluuuus nnnnothing, you still have one!!!
-No, it's nothing!
-If you do times, it's nothing; 1 times 0 is nothing.
...and so on until I finally set them straight.

You probably think this was Cam and Darcy, but no, it was 2 grade 4 boys! Cameron was the one who had it right!!

Cameron and his friend both left at lunch time. Darcy and I played outside and made a mini snowman. Kevin's dad was able to go home from the hospital on Friday. Later that night a skunk sprayed somewhere in our yard. The kitchen still stinks.
