August 7, 2011: The rocks.

Kevin goes back to work tomorrow.

Darcy swam with me and actually wanted me to go away so she could swim on her own. She would walked out until she started to float and then swim a bit, turn around and swim back until she could touch and repeat. I love it!  She did this until her lips turned blue and I had to bribe her with a marshmallow to get her out.  I seem to remember my mom telling me my lips were blue and it was time to get out when I was a kid…

Kevin, Cam, Darcy, Peter, Marina and I went out in the boat and anchored near the rocks because Cam and Marina wanted to swim to the rocks. In all the years I’ve been on this lake, I have never done this, nor wanted to. I don’t like rocks or slime or the bottom of the lake. I like to jump into deep water and climb out with a ladder…not by walking out. I tried to be brave, as there was no way the kids could go alone. Cam, Marina, and Darcy were swimming along beside me. I saw something white lurking below the surface – too far to identify, but too close for me. It was probably an old buoy, but in my mind it was an old body!  So I chickened out.

Peter jumped in and swam over with Cameron and right near the scary white thing was a big rock, just below the surface, so it really was an old buoy.  Marina and I decided to try again. There are a lot more rocks there than you can see when you cruise by and they are sharp. We swam “shallow” without kicking and just using our arms, but we would scrape our fingers on the rocks. Cam was bravest of all in the end and explored all the rocks showing out of the water.

Meanwhile poor Darcy, who was in the boat with Daddy, dropped her brand new “Flash Candy” overboard.
