Darcy's 1st Hallowe'en

At Hallowe'en Darcy was 3 weeks old. She was a little pumpkin and her big brother Cameron was Batman. We went trick-or treating with Amelia & Colby.

Cameron & Kevin preparing our Jack-O-Lantern.

This day was also part of our worst week to date. Darcy had developed thrush, and given it to me as well, via breastfeeding. We diagnosed this on October 30th and got something to treat it, but it hadn't had time to work yet. I was in a lot of pain and Darcy was either inconsolable or asleep, both making nursing very difficult.

We struggled through a very, very difficult weekend and went to the weekly "halte allaitement" (Nourri-Source) at the CLSC on Monday. Although my pain was much less and Darcy was nursing a bit better, she had only gained 30 g in one week, so the nurse asked us to wait and see the doctor. The good news was that Darcy's thrush had cleared up and I was on the mend, too. Still, we were asked to go to another community's "halte" the next day to check the baby's weight. In 24 hours she had lost 60 g! This time were sent to the emergency to rule out any other reasons for the weight loss, such as infection or disease. So, Darcy made her first trip to the emergency room on Nov 4. Since she was so small, we were seen very quickly, but nothing was done, as they thought poking and prodding might do more harm than good. I was instructed to weigh her daily and take her temperature 4 times daily. If she continued to loose weight we were to go straight to the Children's Hospital! Scary!!! Her weight was stable the next day and began to increase by the 6th...and hasn't slowed down yet! (Dec 1st she weighed 10lbs 7 oz!)
