Gaspe: August 7, 2014

August 6,  2014
Hot and sunny
Kevin packed the Jeep and mowed the lawn in town.
Cameron went off down the road and made friends with some of the kids down there.
Darcy and I went for a swim then the 3 of us walked to the beach.
Darcy had baseball practice.
We left for Gaspe at 11:20 p.m.

We stopped at 4:00 a.m. to get gas and switch drivers. Stopped again at 6:30 a.m., when the kids woke up, for timbits and to switch drivers again. Stopped at Aunt Mary’s house in Nouvelle around 8:45 a.m. Then on to Miguasha a few minutes later.

On the road...
Some sites along the way.

I drove from about 4:00 to about 7:00 a.m. while Kevin took a nap.

Getting closer.

Almost there...

The McBrearty family homestead is right on the ocean, on Baie des Chaleurs. The farm is up on a cliff and there is a road that goes down to the beach.  We explored and taught the kids to skip rocks.

Pat's house on the left, Rody's house on the right.

It was hot out; exploring the farm. You can see the sea in the background on the right side of the picture.

Kevin and his Uncle Pat seeing each other for the first time in 7 years.

I just loved the collection of boots!

Cool old battery charger.

Home sweet home for the next week:

The kids got a ride in the tractor while Rody collected hay. They loved it!

Kevin, Uncle Pat and I followed Rody and then kids into the hay field.

While Kevin and Rody tried to fix the cutter on the bailer I took photos.

A nice long walk down the beach before supper.

Found crab shells, mussel shells, neat rocks, dead jelly fish, lots of drift wood. I am a nervous wreck, unsure how I will react as I am allergic to shellfish and I am surrounded!!!  Cam went for a LONG walk. It was getting dark and we couldn't quite make him out, so Kevi. Drove down the beach to find him. He was fine, though!

Hamburgers on the BBQ with Kevin’s cousins at a picnic table on the beach (can't get much better than that!)

Jeep on the beach.

Cam tried the shower, no complaints, but there was a weird propane/hot smell afterwards, so we turned off the propane tank for the night just in case and no one else got a shower.

I had to boil water in the BBQ to use my night guard. We were all in bed early.
