Fall Guide Camp 2018

Darcy and I went to Fall Guide camp this weekend.

What an AMAZING weekend. This was just Darcy's Guide unit, not the whole district.

Thursday helping make the bedroll.

Setting up. Each tent group was responsible for setting up and taking down their tent.

Making lunch. The girls did virtually all the cooking. For some meals, like this one, each girl cooked her own food over the fire. For other meals each tent group took a shift preparing, cooking, or cleaning up a meal.

ditty bags contain each girl's dishes for the weekend.

making dessert.

One banana, skin slices open lengthwise, adde some mini marshmallows and chocolate chips, wrap in foil and heat by the fire. DELICIOUS!

Darcy's turn to clean the bathroom.

So glad our new neighbour joined Girl Guides and got to spend her first year in the same unit as Darcy!

Night lights. We heard coyotes in the distance at  night.

Good morning!

we walked a lot!

Arts n's crafts

Instead of each girl washing her own dishes after each meal like at district camp, each tent took a shift to wash all the dishes after one meal.

Just a wee bit of stuff to take home (3 girls, plus me).

We had a wonderful time on the beautiful property, lots of games, gadgets, crafts and free time for the girls to explore, too. A wonderful weekend of irreplaceable experiences, learning and friendships.

Girl Guide Camp

School's out and camp is in!

Darcy finished school and went home on the bus to Daddy while I worked in the school daycare until about 5:00. By 6:30 the two of us were at Girl Guide camp for the weekend.

All of our gear was ready in advance.

Aside from some backyard camping with my dad as a kid, this was my first time camping. Mom got me set up with all the things I was missing as a very early birthday gift. I needed a good pair of sturdy shoes, a mat for sleeping, camp cutlery, a tarp...

Here we are ready to leave for camp.

The first morning was Crazy Hair morning!

Celebrating Canada 150 and nature.

Everybody helps clean up.

This is what our tents looked like. Everything was already set up for us, and the tents are on wood platforms. What little sleep I got that weekend, was very uncomfortable and I felt like an old lady in the morning, but it was fun.

Making a Canada 150 t-shirt

Here's the final t-shirt.

One of the challenges this weekend was to eat a meal arm-in-arm with someone.

We ate VERY well all weekend. Here is a Canada Fruit Kebab

There were some very disappointed faces when a thunderstorm meant we couldn't go swimming. Actually I should say they couldn't go swimming. I went swimming with the girls that needed to pass their swim test, as I needed to pass, too.

Some beautiful light in the forest after the storm.

Central camp fire.
Everything was very wet, so the fire didn't last long, but the camp fire songs did!

After a very rainy, stormy Saturday, the sun on my tent Sunday morning was beautiful!

A frog. Another of the challenges for the girls was to kiss a frog.
This little guy got lots of kisses, but never turned into a prince.

Tired out from a great weekend!!
